CBD Oil Strength Explained: 1000mg, 2000mg, 3000mg & 6000mg

A clear guide to total CBD, bottle volume and concentration, so you can compare 30ml oils without turning product strength into a personal dosage recommendation.

A clear guide to total CBD, bottle volume and concentration, so you can compare 30ml oils without turning product strength into a personal dosage recommendation.

CBD oil strength is easiest to compare when you separate three numbers: the total CBD in the bottle, the bottle volume and the resulting CBD per millilitre. The milligram figure on the front of a bottle is a product specification; it is not a personalised dosage recommendation.

What does 1000mg, 2000mg, 3000mg or 6000mg actually mean?

On the RJS range, each bottle contains 30ml. The strength number describes the total stated CBD across that entire 30ml bottle. Because the bottle size stays the same, a higher milligram figure means a higher concentration of CBD in each millilitre.

  • 1000mg in 30ml: about 33.3mg of CBD per ml.
  • 2000mg in 30ml: about 66.7mg of CBD per ml.
  • 3000mg in 30ml: 100mg of CBD per ml.
  • 6000mg in 30ml: 200mg of CBD per ml.

Those calculations simply divide the total milligrams by 30ml. They are useful for comparing product concentration on a like-for-like basis.

Total milligrams and percentage are two ways of describing concentration

Some sellers lead with milligrams, while others show a percentage. When comparing products, first check that the bottle volumes are the same. A 1000mg product in 10ml and a 1000mg product in 30ml contain the same total stated CBD, but they are not the same concentration.

For a 30ml bottle, the four RJS specifications work out at approximately 3.3%, 6.7%, 10% and 20% by simple weight-to-volume comparison. The clearest comparison is still to look at both total CBD and bottle size together.

How to compare value without turning strength into a dosage claim

Price alone can be misleading. Compare the total CBD, bottle size, ingredients, available documentation and price per 1000mg. A higher-strength bottle may cost more overall while costing less for the same amount of stated CBD.

Our separate CBD oil price comparison guide explains that calculation in more detail.

Natural or Mint does not change the selected strength

RJS offers Natural and Mint across all four strengths. The selected 1000mg, 2000mg, 3000mg or 6000mg specification and the 30ml bottle size stay the same; the flavour profile is the difference. See our Natural vs Mint guide for the product-format comparison.

What should you check before comparing two CBD oils?

  • The total CBD stated for the whole bottle.
  • The bottle volume in millilitres.
  • Whether the figure refers to CBD specifically or a broader cannabinoid total.
  • The ingredient list and product format.
  • Batch identification and any available supporting documentation.
  • The seller's identity, contact details and delivery/returns information.

Frequently asked questions

What does 1000mg CBD oil mean?

It means the bottle is specified as containing 1000mg of CBD in total. In a 30ml bottle that is about 33.3mg per ml.

Is 6000mg six times as concentrated as 1000mg when both bottles are 30ml?

Yes. When the bottle volume is the same, 6000mg contains six times the stated total CBD of 1000mg and therefore six times the stated CBD per ml.

Does a higher strength tell me how much I should use?

No. Strength is a product specification, not a personalised dosage recommendation.

How should I compare CBD oil strengths?

Compare total CBD, bottle volume, CBD per ml, ingredients, documentation and price on a like-for-like basis.
